Simba 🐾 and I visited Dr. Lyford’s Stone Tower in Tiburon, California — a mysterious 19th-century landmark tucked above the shoreline of the San Francisco Bay. Built in the late 1800s by Civil War surgeon Dr. Benjamin Lyford, this stone tower was part of his dream for Lyford’s Hygeia — a utopian health-focused community that never fully came to life.

Today, the tower stands as a lone architectural remnant surrounded by peaceful hiking trails, coastal plants, and sweeping views of Angel Island, the Bay, and the skyline beyond. It’s an unexpected historical treasure hidden in plain sight.
