Why Mill Ends Park is Special
The park began in the 1940s thanks to journalist Dick Fagan, who noticed an empty hole in the street median and decided to plant flowers in it. Over the years, it grew into a beloved Portland oddity, officially designated as a city park in 1976.
Today, Mill Ends Park is a fun reminder of Portland’s playful spirit and love of all things weird and wonderful. Some even call it a “tiny oasis in the urban jungle.” You’ll often find little seasonal decorations or whimsical additions that locals add to keep the charm alive.
A Must-Stop for Travelers
