Simba πΎ and I set out on the Pulaski Tunnel Trail, a hike that blends scenic beauty with powerful history. A Trail Through History
The trail is as much a living museum as it is a hike. Interpretive signs guide you through the story of the Great Fire of 1910, a devastating wildfire that swept through the region. Ed Pulaski’s quick thinking and courage saved more than 40 men by sheltering them in the mine tunnel—a story that is both humbling and inspiring as you walk in his footsteps.
The Hiking Experience
The 2-mile climb (each way) is steady but manageable, winding through tall pines and following the gentle flow of Placer Creek. The shade made it especially pleasant for Simba and me, and the sound of running water added a calming backdrop. At the end of the trail, you reach an overlook where you can view the historic tunnel entrance—now sealed but preserved as a National Historic Landmark.
