π Exploring the Georgia Pacific No. 5 Steam Locomotive in Corvallis, Oregon
Simba πΎ and I made a stop at Avery Park in Corvallis, Oregon to check out a true piece of railroading history — the Georgia Pacific No. 5 steam locomotive. Built in 1922, this Mikado-type 2-8-2 engine once thundered through Oregon’s timber country, hauling lumber before eventually finding its forever home here as a public display.

A Piece of Oregon’s Timber and Railroad Heritage
This mighty locomotive was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and used by the Georgia Pacific Corporation to haul timber and freight across Oregon’s rugged logging lines. In 1960, it was retired and donated to the City of Corvallis, where it now sits proudly in Avery Park as a monument to the state’s industrial past.
The sight of the engine — with its weathered steel and towering stack — offers a glimpse into an era when steam power fueled both progress and adventure.
Dog-Friendly History Stop πΎ
Avery Park is a great place to visit with pups! Simba enjoyed the stroll around the locomotive while I filmed and admired the intricate engineering that brought this giant to life. Whether you’re a train enthusiast, a history buff, or just looking for an interesting stop on your Oregon road trip, this display is worth checking out.
