⚫ Bowling Ball Beach – Nature’s Sculpted Shoreline π✨
Simba πΎ and I visited the incredible Bowling Ball Beach in Point Arena, California, one of the most fascinating and otherworldly natural wonders along the Mendocino Coast. π
This surreal stretch of shoreline is famous for its perfectly round rock formations — massive “bowling balls” shaped by millions of years of erosion and the rhythmic power of the Pacific Ocean. Hidden beneath the waves at high tide, these geological marvels reveal themselves only when the tide recedes, transforming the beach into a landscape that feels straight out of a sci-fi movie.

π A Hidden Wonder of the Mendocino Coast
Located just south of Point Arena, Bowling Ball Beach is part of the Schooner Gulch State Beach area — a peaceful, scenic spot known for its dramatic cliffs, marine life, and tide-sculpted rock formations.
The “bowling balls” themselves are concretions — spherical clusters of sediment and minerals that hardened over time and were gradually exposed by the erosive force of the ocean. It’s a natural phenomenon that feels almost too perfect to be real.
Simba and I arrived at low tide (the best time to visit!) and were absolutely mesmerized by the sight. Rows of round stones glistened in the sunlight, surrounded by swirling waves and sea foam. It’s easily one of the most photogenic and unique beaches in California — part science lesson, part art gallery created by nature itself.
