Visiting the Tree in the Rock – Buford, Wyoming π²πΎ
On our Wyoming road trip, Simba πΎ and I stopped at one of the quirkiest roadside attractions in the state — the Tree in the Rock near Buford, WY. This resilient pine has been growing straight out of a massive granite boulder for more than a century, defying the odds and becoming a fascinating landmark for travelers along the Lincoln Highway and today’s I-80.

Why the Tree in the Rock Is Worth a Stop
The Tree in the Rock is more than just a quirky photo op — it’s a symbol of nature’s resilience. Despite being rooted in solid stone, this tree has thrived for generations, standing as a landmark for pioneers, railroad travelers, and now modern road trippers.
The nearby historical marker explains its connection to the Lincoln Highway, America’s first transcontinental highway, making this little roadside gem a reminder of both history and perseverance.
It’s the kind of stop that doesn’t take long but leaves you smiling, appreciating the unexpected wonders that make road trips so special.
