A Landmark That’s Fun for All Ages
Installed in 1989, the Big Red Wagon was created for the Expo ’74 World’s Fair and has since become one of Spokane’s most beloved attractions. Measuring 27 feet long and weighing 26 tons, this massive wagon captures the spirit of childhood nostalgia while offering a real slide for kids (and adventurous adults!) to enjoy.
As Simba and I wandered through Riverfront Park, I couldn’t help but smile watching families, travelers, and kids climbing, sliding, and laughing on the wagon. It’s the perfect example of how public art can bring joy and connection to a community.
