🐾 Walking in Pioneer Footsteps at Windlass Hill – Ash Hollow Historic Site, NE 🏜️
On our Life on Paws and Wheels journey, Simba 🐾 and I made a historical stop in Oshkosh, Nebraska to explore the Oregon Trail Landmark at Windlass Hill — a place where history comes alive beneath your feet.
This site marks one of the most dramatic and challenging points along the Oregon Trail, where pioneers in the mid-1800s lowered their wagons down the steep slope of Windlass Hill. Over 150 years later, you can still see the deep wagon ruts etched into the prairie, a silent reminder of their courage and grit.
📍 Highlights from Our Visit
Walk the Windlass Hill Trail: Follow the same path pioneers once traveled.See Authentic Wagon Ruts: Preserved impressions from the days of westward expansion.
Learn Pioneer Stories: On-site signs share the challenges of life on the trail.

🐾 Simba’s Take
Simba loved trotting along the grassy paths, taking in the wide-open Nebraska skies. It’s dog-friendly, but also a great opportunity to slow down, reflect, and appreciate the history beneath your paws and boots.
