ππͺ¨ Roadside Views & Quirky Rocks with Simba the Adventure Pup! Fort Payne, AL πΎ
Hey friends! Ash here — and this week, Simba the Adventure Pup and I took a scenic mini-tour through some of Fort Payne, Alabama’s most iconic roadside gems! πΆππ€️
From epic canyon overlooks to weird rock formations, these quick stops are perfect for RV travelers, road trippers, or anyone wanting a slice of North Alabama beauty without a long hike. Oh — and yes, they’re totally dog-friendly too! πΎπ
π Our Scenic Route
These stops are all located along or near the Little River Canyon Rim Parkway (AL Hwy 176) — part of the stunning Little River Canyon National Preserve:
π️ 1. Canyon Overlook
Our first stop was a classic — Canyon Overlook offers one of the most expansive views of the canyon and Little River below. You can park right at the overlook, take a short stroll down to the edge, and soak it all in. Simba loved the fresh air and the soft breeze over his ears! ππ¬️
πΈ Tip: Sunrise or golden hour makes this view ✨ next level ✨.
π² 2. Wolf Creek Overlook
Just a few minutes down the road is Wolf Creek Overlook, another jaw-dropping spot with slightly different canyon angles and rockier edges. It’s quiet, peaceful, and perfect for taking a quick walk and snapping a few photos. π·
We hung out here for a bit and let Simba explore the brush and sniff all the wild Alabama scents. πΎπΎ
π 3. Mushroom Rock
This one’s just fun. Right along the parkway — literally in the middle of the road — sits Mushroom Rock, a massive rock formation that looks exactly like its name suggests.
π§ There's a safe pull-off spot nearby, and it’s worth hopping out for a closer look. Simba gave it a solid tail wag of approval, though he was very unsure about why the road had a mushroom in it. π€π
πΆ Dog-Friendly Travel Notes
✔️ All stops are short walks from the parking area
✔️ Leashes required — and a good idea near canyon edges
✔️ Bring water for your pup — even short walks can warm them up
✔️ Most overlooks have no railings — keep those paws safe!
✔️ Perfect for older dogs or low-energy days π
π RV + Road Trip Tips

• No RV parking right at Mushroom Rock, but short walk from nearby turnout
