ππΎ Hiking the Sky Bridge Trail with Simba the Adventure Pup! Red River Gorge, KY π✨
Hey trail fam! Ash here — and today’s adventure brings us to one of the most iconic (and easiest to love) trails in Red River Gorge: the Sky Bridge Trail near Pine Ridge, Kentucky! πΆπ²
Short, sweet, and seriously scenic, this 0.8-mile loop gives you forest paths, panoramic views, and a chance to walk both under and over a natural sandstone arch. Yes please! π
Simba the Adventure Pup was all in from the first step — and this trail delivered big beauty in a short, totally pup-friendly package.
π Trail Overview
Location: Sky Bridge Trail – Red River Gorge, Pine Ridge, KYDistance: ~0.8-mile loop
Difficulty: Easy (a few stairs, some uneven rock)
Dog-Friendly: Absolutely — Simba loved every sniff and view πΎ
Highlights: Sandstone arch, forest canopy, ridge overlooks, walk under AND over the bridge
Perfect For: Families, RV travelers, short-stay hikers, and golden retrievers with short attention spans π
π₯Ύ Trail Experience
We kicked off the loop from the Sky Bridge parking area, which has restrooms and picnic tables — a great base for a quick adventure or trail snack before/after.
πͺ¨ First Stop: Under the Arch
The trail quickly descends down a series of stone steps and leads you underneath the natural sandstone arch. Standing beneath it, you can feel the coolness of the stone, the shade from the forest, and the awe of walking through geologic time.
Simba paused for some classic rock-sniffing and posed for a few glam shots with the arch in the background. πΈπΆ
π Next Stop: Over the Bridge
After walking under the arch, the trail loops you around and up on top of the arch itself — complete with railings for safety and one seriously photogenic overlook of the gorge. You’ll feel like you're floating above the trees with views that stretch into Daniel Boone National Forest.
Simba leaned into the breeze and just took it all in. Golden moment, literally. ππ¬️
