ππΎ Hiking the Endless Wall Trail with Simba the Adventure Pup - New River Gorge NP, WV πͺ¨✨
Hey trail fam! Ash here — and today’s hike was something truly unforgettable. Simba the Adventure Pup and I tackled one of the most scenic trails in the eastern U.S.: the legendary Endless Wall Trail at New River Gorge National Park near Lansing, West Virginia. πΆ⛰️
If you’re looking for a dog-friendly trail that combines woodland peace, dramatic views, and a real “wow” factor, this one absolutely delivers. And yes — Simba soaked in every step, sniff, and sweeping overlook like the seasoned trail pup he is.
π Trail Overview
Location: Endless Wall Trail – New River Gorge National Park, WVDistance: ~2.5–3 miles (out-and-back or loop via road connector)
Difficulty: Easy to moderate (a few roots, rocks, and cliff edges)
Dog-Friendly: Yes — Simba gave it two paws up πΎ
Trail Type: Point-to-point or loop (Fern Creek → Nuttall or reverse)
Highlights: Diamond Point Overlook, endless cliff views, forest serenity
π₯Ύ Trail Experience
We started at the Fern Creek Trailhead, heading east toward Diamond Point, one of the best panoramic overlooks in the entire New River Gorge. The trail winds through cool, shaded forest, with occasional glimpses of the gorge peeking through the trees.
Simba was in heaven — soft dirt paths, so many smells, and plenty of shaded breaks to sniff and relax. πΆπ
π Diamond Point: The Crown Jewel
About a mile in, we reached the Diamond Point Overlook — and wow. π€―
The view opens up dramatically to reveal the New River winding through deep canyon walls, with climbers scaling the cliffs below and birds soaring on the breeze. You feel like you're standing on the edge of something ancient, vast, and beautiful.
