This scenic loop leads to the iconic King’s Chair rock formation, offering sweeping mountain views, peaceful pine forest, and a fun, dog-friendly challenge for hikers of all levels.

Trail: King’s Chair Loop via Blue Trail
Location: Oak Mountain State Park – Pelham, AL
Distance: ~4.2 miles round trip
Difficulty: Moderate (some incline, well-marked trail)
Dog-Friendly: YES! Simba crushed it! 🐾
Highlights: Forest shade 🌲, the epic King’s Chair overlook 🪑, and a peaceful escape just outside the city 🏞️

🎒 The Hike

We started at the South Trailhead, heading up the Blue Trail. The route winds gently through the forest before climbing to the overlook — and wow, the views from the top are incredible! 😍

At King’s Chair, we took a break to soak in the sights (and catch our breath 🥵), while Simba enjoyed some water and sniffed all the mountain scents 🐶🍃.

This is one of those trails that gives you big reward for moderate effort — perfect for a morning outing or sunset hike. 🌄

🐕 Tips for Hiking King’s Chair with Your Pup

✔️ Bring water — it can get warm on the climb
✔️ Leash is required in the park 🦮
✔️ Early morning = cooler temps & fewer crowds
✔️ There’s plenty of shade and a few spots to rest along the way
✔️ Pack out all trash and keep this trail beautiful for others! ♻️
