This scenic loop leads to the iconic King’s Chair rock formation, offering sweeping mountain views, peaceful pine forest, and a fun, dog-friendly challenge for hikers of all levels.
Location: Oak Mountain State Park – Pelham, AL
Distance: ~4.2 miles round trip
Difficulty: Moderate (some incline, well-marked trail)
Dog-Friendly: YES! Simba crushed it! ๐พ
Highlights: Forest shade ๐ฒ, the epic King’s Chair overlook ๐ช, and a peaceful escape just outside the city ๐️
At King’s Chair, we took a break to soak in the sights (and catch our breath ๐ฅต), while Simba enjoyed some water and sniffed all the mountain scents ๐ถ๐.
This is one of those trails that gives you big reward for moderate effort — perfect for a morning outing or sunset hike. ๐

We started at the South Trailhead, heading up the Blue Trail.
