Hey trail friends! Ash here from Life on Paws and Wheels, and this week, Simba and I ventured into one of Central Florida’s most beautiful state parks — Wekiwa Springs — to hike the peaceful and scenic Volksmarch Trail.
This easygoing loop winds through pine flatwoods, sandhills, and wetlands, offering a quiet escape into nature just outside of Orlando. It’s the perfect trail for RV travelers looking to stretch their legs or for locals seeking a serene hike with their dog.
✔️ Open space and natural scents – so many new smells and sounds to explore
✔️ Plenty of shaded breaks – especially helpful on warm Florida days
✔️ Peace and quiet – not too crowded, which made the experience even better for both of us
This trail gets two sandy paws up from Simba!
💦 Pack water – there’s little to no water access once you're on the trail
🧴 Bug spray recommended – especially in warmer months
🌳 Start early – Florida sun gets intense, even in the shade
🗺️ Grab a map – there are several connecting trails in the park, so it's easy to wander off course
