A Dog-Friendly Day in Key West with Simba the Adventure Pup πΎπ
Hey everyone! Ash here from Life on Paws and Wheels, and this week, Simba and I traded forest trails and mountains for palm trees, sunshine, and island vibes in Key West, Florida — and wow, did it deliver!
We spent a full day exploring this vibrant, quirky, tropical town, checking out iconic landmarks, strolling colorful streets, and enjoying several pup-friendly stops along the way. Whether you're RVing down the Florida Keys or planning a pet-friendly vacation, Key West is full of charm, history, and tails-wagging fun.

πΊ️ Our Dog-Friendly Itinerary
Here’s how Simba and I spent our sun-soaked day:π΄ Southernmost Point
No trip to Key West is complete without a stop at the Southernmost Point Buoy — the most photographed spot in town!

πΈ Simba posed like a pro (though we skipped the long photo line). Early morning visits are best to beat the crowds.
π Ernest Hemingway Home (outside only)
Dogs aren’t allowed inside, but we walked the outside perimeter and peeked at the historic home where Hemingway lived.
π‘ Fun fact: the polydactyl cats have their own fan club!

πΊ️ Truman Little White House (outside only)
We wandered the leafy paths around this presidential retreat. While Simba couldn’t go inside, it was worth a peaceful stroll.

π Key West Aquarium
This one surprised us — dogs are allowed inside on leash! Simba was fascinated by the fish tanks and stingrays.
π️ Great option if you're looking for a break from the sun.

π¦ Nancy Forrester’s Secret Garden
An off-the-beaten-path gem where rescued parrots live and thrive.
π¦ It’s a quiet, shady oasis — and Simba was mesmerized by the birds (from a respectful distance, of course).

π° Key Lime Pie Stop
What’s Key West without the iconic key lime pie? We stopped at a dog-friendly cafΓ© and enjoyed a slice on the patio.
π₯§ (Simba didn’t get pie, but he did get a biscuit!)

πΆ♂️ Wandering Old Town
Colorful conch houses, bright murals, live music, and plenty of tail-wagging street action.
π We just let the day unfold — and that’s the best way to experience Key West.
• Most outdoor restaurants and patios are pet-friendly
• Bring water and watch the pavement — it can get hot!
• Early morning or late afternoon walks are best
• Parking is tight — we left the RV at a nearby campground and explored on foot
In our latest video, we walk you through the highlights of this dog-friendly tropical adventure — complete with island colors, quirky finds, and lots of golden retriever joy.
