Walking Through History: The Battlefield Trail at Kings Mountain with Simba the Adventure Pup

Hey friends! Ash here from Life on Paws and Wheels, back with another awesome stop from the road.

This time, Simba (my golden retriever and loyal travel buddy) and I explored the Battlefield Trail at Kings Mountain National Military Park in Blacksburg, South Carolina — a short, scenic, and history-packed loop that walks you through the site of one of the most pivotal battles of the Revolutionary War.

πŸ—Ί️ About the Battlefield Trail

The Battlefield Trail is a ~1.8-mile loop that winds through the heart of Kings Mountain National Military Park. The trail is well-marked, mostly shaded, and filled with interpretive signs and monuments that tell the story of the Battle of Kings Mountain — a turning point in the fight for American independence.

For history buffs, it’s a chance to stand where patriot militia defeated loyalist forces in 1780. For nature lovers (and their pups), it’s a peaceful walk through beautiful Carolina hardwood forest, blending history with natural beauty.

🐾 Hiking with Simba: Dog-Friendly Highlights

✔️ Leashed + dog-friendly — Simba enjoyed sniffing his way through history (and maybe imagining himself as a Revolutionary War hero).
✔️ Shady paths — perfect for a relaxed walk, even on a warm day.
✔️ Gentle terrain — the trail has some rolling hills but is easy enough for most fitness levels.
✔️ Quiet + peaceful — we visited on a weekday morning and had stretches of the trail to ourselves.

🚐 RV Traveler Tips

While there’s no RV camping inside Kings Mountain National Military Park, there are several nearby campgrounds that make it easy to plan a visit. It’s a fantastic educational stop if you’re road-tripping through the Carolinas, and it pairs nicely with nearby trails at Kings Mountain State Park or Crowders Mountain for a full hiking weekend.
